Distribution System and
Treatment Facilities Improvements
Milford, Delaware

Comprehensive water system study, hydrogeologic evaluation and computer modeling of the entire City water system was performed. The study phase resulted in the recommendation to design five new production wells with an appropriate test well program as well as repair and redevelopment of two existing production well facilities. The treatment portion included the upgrade of two existing treatment plants located on Seabury Avenue and Washington Street as well as the complete new construction of a 1.5-MGD treatment plant along Delaware Rt. 1. All three facilities included aeration, disinfection and liquid fluoride feed systems. The Seabury Avenue plant was upgraded in 1998 to include iron removal by pressure filtration.

The storage expansion included a new 500,000-gallon single-pedestal elevated storage tank at the municipal yard along North 10th Street. The water distribution system was upgraded according to the results of the computer model with over 70,000 LF of new pipe or main replacement. The performance of the water main network was improved by numerous new interconnections and tie-ins.
