River Run Irrigation Plan
Ocean City, Maryland

River Run’s 250-acre residential community includes a 6,700 yard Gary Player golf course with on-site wastewater treatment and disposal by spray irrigation on fairways and woodland. Designed by Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc., the wastewater treatment system accommodates 350 residential units, a clubhouse, and a pool/bath house for a total of 112,000 GPD. Flows are disinfected for two-source disposal including spray and subsurface. Treatment includes a 10-foot deep, 7.0 MG lined extended aeration/activated sludge lagoon with integral clarifier for sludge separation and recycling. A six-zone (4 wooded, and 2 fairway) spray application process is utilized, with application rate on each wooded site of 2.39 inches, 1 day per week, for 9.6 hours with a 6-day rest period. Fairway irrigation includes 1.5 hours of spray for 6 days with 1 day rest. Total spray area is 13.05 acres, with 6.68 acres in reserve. The application process allows for no spray on one day of inclement weather, plus additional recovery of 60-day storage volume.
