Lewes Church of Christ
Milton, Delaware
Located at a primary intersection of Route One, north of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the Lewes Church of Christ can accommodate 600 worshippers initially with an expansion of nearly 1,000. Biblically based with strong musical and theatrical support, the chancel is viewed as a "stage" and was completed with theatrical lighting and video technology. Programming, master planning, and Phase I design services were provided. Architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering and computer graphics services were all produced in-house.
This project included evaluation of focus group input to complete a recommendation to The Lewes Church of Christ for a 23,500 SF Worship and Education Facility on a 9 acre site in Milton, Delaware. Physical spatial requirements were proposed to house the worship/music/drama, education, outdoor and support functions of the church.
The site for the Lewes Church of Christ was first analyzed, then master planned in response to the interview phase of program preparation. The approach to the site design recognized that the religious experience does not begin at the entry doors to the church, but rather the moment a member of the congregation steps foot on the site. Theological opportunites link the church with an on-site ampitheater, and water is incorporated for reflection, symbolism and environmental reasons.
The structural system for the project is that of a steel structure with cold formed steel curtain walls: Foundation and framing design, snow and wind load analysis, moment frame design, shear wall design, specifications, detailed construction drawings and other construction services. |
